2015 Basilica Organ

Andreas Schonger (left) and apprentice Zane Boothby mark drill sizes for the holes on a rack board that will support pipes and hold them firmly in place. Fritts uses a self-customized version of Microsoft Excel to make the tens of thousands of precise calculations required for every aspect of an organ’s design. Here Schonger and Boothby work from a template printed on mylar rather than paper so that their precise markings cannot be affected by humidity — even slightly.
